In the late 40ís & 50ís when Ballroom dancing was at its peak, the role of the Dance Schools was to teach people to dance and then they would go dancing in the many large Ballrooms that every city & town had. There was also dancing in most town halls and many other privately run ballrooms.

With the change in the music, the desire to dance with a partner changed to solo dancing to the pop music of the day.

Today there are very few large Ballrooms left where people can go to dance so the role of the Schools & Dance Centres has changed to not only teaching dancing but also to provide the facilities to dance.
